Urban Sports Club strengthens international growth with new investor
Urban Sports Club, European leader in sports flatrates, has secured eight-figure funding. Lead investor of this round is Partech. The investment will be used to promote international growth, with a focus on strengthening supply in France. The company will thus expand into other French cities, acquire new studio partners and invest in marketing activities. Urban Sports Club is the first German company to receive funding from Partech's Growth Fund.
With a Urban Sports Club membership, it is currently possible to use more than 3,000 sports and wellness partners in currently more than 30 cities in three countries (Germany, France and Italy). The company has developed a concept in Europe, with which members can check in to sports courses or wellness offers of affiliated partners via a smartphone app. The memberships range from 29 to 129 euros per month and apply across borders. Urban Sports Club also offers comprehensive solutions on the company side. Whether small start-up or large corporation: With its flexible sports membership, Urban Sports Club gives every company a variety of opportunities to specifically target employees in health care support and promote.
"It has always been our dream to create Europe's largest sports offer, and with its network and experience, Partech is the right partner to support our strong international growth," said Moritz Kreppel, CEO and co-founder of Urban Sports Club. "Sport is our DNA, that's why we move fast, and Partech's quick and smooth investment process has made us even more confident."
Urban Sports Club was founded in late 2012 in Berlin, when Benjamin Roth and Moritz Kreppel, two passionate entrepreneurs and sports enthusiasts, developed the concept of a flexible sports flat rate that revolutionized traditional sports and fitness contracts. Thanks to organic growth and strategic acquisitions in the past, the company has rapidly expanded into other cities in recent years and countries. After the 2017 start-up first gained a foothold in the French market, it is now making its mark with the opening of two new partner cities in Italy. In Paris, the offer currently amounts to over 300 sports partners. The network has recently opened its second partner city with Lyon in France.
Omri Benayoun, General Partner at Partech, explains: "As we Moritz (Kreppel) and Benjamin (Roth) at the beginning of the year, we were immediately convinced. We knew right away that they are an exceptional founding team and have what it takes to build the European leader in their field. We are delighted to support them on this journey and to help them accelerate their development, especially in France."
